We Grabbed Some Friends,

Hopped On Our City's Light Rail,

and Rode Downtown

to See the Glorious Lights At

Temple Square

********

As I was riding our City’s Public Transportation, A Tiny, Older Woman Sat by Me, and as We Rode, She Pulled out a project she was working on, and obviously had been for a while. I watched as she looped together red and green ribbon, over and over, making a thick braid of sorts. I asked her what she was making and if it were for Christmas, and she told me she didn’t speak English, but proceeded to demonstrate the uses that she planned to use it for- as a bracelet or a headband, or trim on a purse, the whole time, speaking to me in Spanish, and I had to tell her I didn’t speak Spanish.

She Let Me Watch her loop that ribbon, in and out, and then she held it out to me and wanted Me to try.

I Did.

I made a few loops, trying to follow her Spanish instructions.

[I noticed later that she pulled My Untrained Loops Out- Ha, Ha].

She let me continue to be mesmerized by her working hands, that were clean and beautiful.
When My Stop came, I was sorry to leave, and I wanted to express to her that I had enjoyed her Lovely company.

I’m not sure I expressed it to her understanding of language,

but Her eyes told me that she understood.

That’s the kind of Old Woman, I want to be.

You will be that kind of old woman.

But you'll give your instructions in English.

I want to be kind like that when I'm an old woman.
